Please meet Tigger. Tigger the jumping bean. Also commonly known at home as the spaz. This girls low speed is a good trot, mostly a run and many bounces. There is always somewhere more fun to be, even if its the other side of the living room. We could not figure out what breeds Tigger was, so a DNA test was ran, and I think we got a different dogs results back (haha). Tigger is NOT a big dog, barely even a Medium dog…but her top breeds are:  46% Pitty, 16% AmStaf, 10% Rottweiler and 8% Husky. They lie. They must! She’s SO little! Brindle with big adorable ears that we suppose could be pitty, and a crazy bad underbite, but I just don’t see it. Shes lean and leggy.

Tigger was raised in a shelter until she was 5 months old. One would think this would create a pretty tolerant dog, used to people and dogs and noises, but Tigger is none of those things unfortunately. She came to rescue because the people at the shelter couldn’t touch her. She was petrified of everyone. She came to us in the same way, but has really blossomed into a happy girl. Until company arrives. She will not let a stranger anywhere near her. No Way, No How. She has been getting better with company over, less stressed, less barking, but she will gladly go lay away from the commotion, little people are especially scary. This being said, she needs a quiet household, and most definitely no kids. The less people she has to ‘deal with’ the better. A single person, male or female, would be perfect for her! But that single person really needs to have another confident and happy dog for her to play with. We had a wonderful lady try her for a few days and Tigger was just as petrified as she was at the shelter, it was hearbreaking for the lady and the scarriest few days for Tigger, Tigger refused to even leave her crate. I had thought it would be great, but we now know that Tigger needs to follow the lead of a more confident dog. Without someone showing her ‘the ropes’ she just shuts down. Shes fairly respectful of dogs until she knows if she can be top dog, or just have a play buddy. We have several pals for her and she respects the alpha dog but challenges one of the other snobby girls. Males are her favorite for sure, but if they’ll play, she’ll play back. Tag and chase are her favorites!

Tigger is really extremely sweet and loving at our house. She loves to get lovings up on the couch, she will roll right over for belly scratches and loves to be rubbed all over. But she isn’t one to snuggle…once shes done getting your attention, she will find a more comfortable spot to nap, or a dog to play with, or something to chew on (preferably a dog toy, but not always).

Tigger took forever to fully potty train. This had to be from living in a kennel, but we have mastered the pottying like a pro. She doesn’t know how to ask to go out, but if you watch her, she’ll RUN from door to door, that’s her ‘signal’.
Tigger is still very much puppy, and needs to be crated when not supervised. She is GREAT in her crate, luckily., she really loves it! Even sleeps in it, next to the couch, for puppy naps with door open. Her new pet parent would need to have one as well, unless they want shredded blankets and paper, and plastic, and cardboard, etc. 🙂
Tigger also relies on other dogs to help her be brave. She definitely takes her ques from them. (other than people, because my dogs love company, she hasn’t caught on yet).
Shes great in the car and enjoys taking walks, as long as you don’t mind getting tripped. We are working on heel, because she really isn’t even confident enough to walk at the end of the lead, she walks right next to, or right in front of me.
She does OK with cats. Wont kill them, wont harm them, but would really enjoy a cat to gnaw on for fun. We can call her off, but she does enjoy pestering them.
Tigger is SUPER SMART!  She does sit and wait for an OK before she eats her dinner, and sits for treats, but “down” isn’t her favorite thing to do. We live rural with only partial fence and she rarely wanders off. We always go out with her and she’ll only wander if not supervised. She does ‘chase’ the deer, but does stop and come back. She would love a herding job, as she tries with our free range birds! Unfortunately obedience classes would shut her right down….so training will be something you would need to work on yourself. We are taking her to stores and she does surprisingly good, as long as no one wants to pet her. She sees strangers and doesn’t bark, not even in the car. BUT she will jump out the window if its down, and that could end badly if she were to get frightened and bolt.
Right now she only trusts me, and sometimes daddy, but daddy can be scary at really random times. She prefers him when hes sitting mostly.
Trust can work wonders with dogs like her. She needs to become more sure of herself in her own skin. In time, in the right home, I’m sure she will be awesome! We just have to convince HER of that!

Please come meet her! I mean, she wont let you pet her! But come meet her! Please? Tigger says  “Maybe you can pet me when you take me home” which is hard for an adopter who wants to love and snuggle their new best friend. You may want to read up on Puppy Mill dogs. She isn’t one, but she sure shows like one. Her new pet parent would have to be very patient, as I can be sure it would be several days, if not more, before you could pet her. Shes been traumatized badly, but we, even after a year in foster, are hoping that special person is out there somewhere.

Please feel free to drop us a note and we would love to chat more about her! She really does deserve a good long life with a special someone and their dog(s).
