Hi, I’m Snowy. I’m a spayed female white German shepherd/ Swiss shepherd and probably around 1-2 years old. I weigh approximately 60 lbs.

I have some behaviors that need work so I’m not a good choice for a first time dog owner. But I have a lots of potential and would do great with someone with some training experience or willing to invest in classes.  Prior experience with an intelligent higher energy breed preferred.

I’m very athletic, I could possibly be a good candidate for agility or other dog sports. I need an active family as I have high exercise needs, although I do enjoy couch potato time too.

I will need a 6ft fenced in yard. Lower fences I could probably escape and an electric fence likely wouldn’t hold me. I was picked up as a stray and we want to ensure I don’t get lost again. We could also potentially consider an adopter who would always take me out on leash for breaks and who is very active, such as a runner or hiker but this would need to be consistent year round so I get adequate exercise. I love getting to play toys in the yard and go for walks. However I have a high prey drive so if I see a small critter I will pull with all my might and need someone able bodied to mange me.

I’m a little scared of new people. I am standoffish at first but I’m very food motivated and will take treats. I may bark and/or growl if I see people when I’m on a walk or can see people through the fence from my yard (this can be variable and sometimes I’m perfectly fine too). I’ve done well with the staff at the vet and met some other rescue volunteers at an adoption event and did well. Once I warm up I’m very affectionate and playful. I benefit from calm slow positive introductions with treats. While I may sound scary I’m often wagging my tail too and have shown no aggression otherwise.

It’s recommended if I’m in a home with kids for them to be 12+, mainly just due to the fact that I can get very excited and will jump up/claw and could easily topple over younger kids. While minor, foster mom has a few scrapes and bruises from me.

I have not been around cats, we recommend no cats given my high prey drive. We are also recommending me to be an only dog for now- I get extremely excited/overstimulated around other dogs (hyper-arousal). While I’m not showing aggression, I’m so crazy that I don’t listen to foster mom or signals from the other dogs. I try to mount them which the other dogs don’t like but I don’t listen when they try to tell me to stop. This type of behavior can escalate quickly and so I’ve been staying separate from the other dogs in the house. For now I’m working on calming down more when I see other dogs. I’m making progress but I can still go crazy and be hard to manage on leash if the other dog is barking at me directly.

I’m a smart girl and have a lot of potential with training and the right owner. I already know a few tricks and could learn more if you teach me. I’m fully house broken. Other than stealing underwear out of the laundry basket I am trustworthy around the house unsupervised when my family is away. I love to snuggle up with you on the couch or bed. I love playing toys and going for walks or riding in the car. I’m spayed, up to date with core vaccinations, and have a clean bill of health.

Our rescue can offer a trial adoption to see if I would be a good fit for you. Foster mom is happy to answer questions about me, otherwise please fill out an adoption application to see if you would be a good fit, then we could meet!
