My name is Sassy.  I am a Schipperke and I came to APB with a serious problem.  I’m twice my normal weight at 31.1 pounds! When Sassy first came in she could only walk 5-10 feet and would have to lay down and rest.  She would gasp for air especially in the heat.  Sassy got this way possibly by an owner with dementia that kept forgetting they had already fed the dog.  She has a thyroid problem and some other underlying issues.  Many tests have been run and it will take more blood work monitoring to get her to a normal weight.  She has lost some weight on an expensive prescription food.   Sassy is gaining strength and mobility.  She exercises by swimming.  Please help with Sassy’s journey back to her healthy potential. Update: It has been 15 weeks now and Sassy is down to 19.7 pound!  She is getting closer to her ideal weight and she is feeling SO much better.  She has some more “work” to do for a while yet but GOOD JOB Sassy for getting this far! The Schipperke, Belgium’s “little captain,” is the traditional barge dog of the Low Countries. Curious, lively, and intense but mischievous, this little black dog is a robust, long-lived companion for whom there is never a dull moment.
