Since Ricky was an unclaimed stray, we do not have any history on him other than his hair was kind of a mess either from neglect or from being outside and running for awhile.
He looks very different as you can see from his before and after pictures. If you prefer “fluffy” dogs, you can leave his hair longer if you keep up his grooming.
Ricky is very cautious of new people and takes a little while to warm up to someone new but once he knows you, he will remember you, especially if you give him treats!
He will probably do best as an only dog. While he is living with other dogs in his foster home, he doesn’t get along with some of them, especially larger dogs. It doesn’t matter if they are male or female as he just seems to be afraid of them and will actually go after them. If they ignore him, he then ignores them but if they react and go back at him, they are his “arch enemy” from then on. He can also be jealous of other dogs getting attention so again, he would probably be best as an only dog. On the good side of this is that he will become your “best friend” and will love to follow you around and be near you almost all the time.
A crate is not his favorite thing although he has been crated and while he cries and carries on for a while, he eventually settles down. He doesn’t seem to chew on stuff and goes outside to potty so many times he is left free in the house when the humans leave. At night he likes to sleep on the bed but again, he has been crated and pretty much objects at first but eventually settles down.
Currently Ricky lives in a house that has a fenced yard. We are not positive he would not have accidents if he had to be leash walked but if someone wants to work with him, I am sure he could learn.
