Sad update: An update to Effie’s story that we really hoped NOT to give. Another foster fell in love with her after dogsitting her for a weekend, and kept her at home to give her a soft place to heal. Unfortunately, the previous neglect was too severe, and her little body just didn’t have enough left to recover. She passed away on Friday at home, peacefully. Our thoughts are with those who loved her, and thanks to Cheryle and Dale for giving her a soft sweet end…we just couldn’t make up for her beginning.
Effie, a miniature poodle of undetermined age, is another rescue that APB is helping restore to health. She was flown to Michigan by Pilots for Paws. She came in to care at 5# with her bones protruding everywhere from malnutrition and starvation. I don’t know how she survived on her own as a stray. Our vet had to remove all of her teeth because they were rotting in her mouth. Now that the infection and the pain is subsiding she is beginning to eat more and will hopefully put on some much needed weight. She is very content to lay next to me on the chair and follows me everywhere. She lays on a soft blanket to ease the pain of sitting on her bony frame. She just stares at me with soulful eyes that pierce my heart with her sweet disposition. Her surgery was very costly, many times our adoption fee. With your financial help we can continue to help these animals in such distress and return them to a life worth living in a home with a loving family.
