Over the years we have taken in many blind dogs. We have had a few that it took us over a week to realize they were blind — some dogs have an amazing ability to learn to cope with their lack of sight or very impaired vision.
Charlie has not adjusted as well as most of the other dogs in our experience. Recently we have learned of a new device that blind dogs can wear that gives them a remarkable advantage to navigate safely in new places. While the purchase of this transmitter is not imperative for Charlie, it would help him with his confidence level and hopefully reduce his anxiety and fears when he is in a new place and situation.
Charlie is an extremely loving dog when he gets to know someone and he has been a joy to work with. We are hoping to raise the money to purchase a BlindSight-S2 for him. He would wear it attached to a harness that is fitted to his measurements and is powered by a 9 volt battery that should be replaced every 3 years. The unit’s transponder is guaranteed to last for 10 years.
