Hi there, I’m Banjo. I’m a 7 year old male Australian shepherd. My old owner couldn’t keep anymore so I’ve been in foster with the rescue with a focus on losing weight. So far I’ve lost 40lbs! I feel so much better now. I currently weight about 70lbs and should still lose a few more, I’m looking for a new family who will make exercise and a healthy diet a priority for me.

I am very friendly and like meeting new people, and I do well with other dogs. My foster family thinks I would do fine with kids, but since I’m a big boy and a little clumsy it would probably be best if the kids were 6+ so I don’t step on them or knock them over etc. I may be able to live with a cat if it used to dogs and won’t run, and has its claws to give me a warning if I need it.

I do like to bark at the mail man and people walking by so I would not be a good fit for an apartment as I might bother close neighbors. I would do best with a fenced in yard (4ft fence would likely do the trick). Unlike other aussies I’m not good about coming back when called and will wander/ jog off so I always need to be kept on leash or contained when I’m outside. Another bad habit I have is trying to herd the other dogs here when they run in the yard and then I bark at them. The other dogs find it quite annoying. Foster mom says this next part very loving, but I’m not the sharpest Aussie there is. It took me quite some time to learn a basic shake. I could learn some simple tricks but if your goal would be agility or advanced tricks Banjo is not the dog for you.

I absolutely LOVE going for walks and riding in the car. I like to nuzzle your leg for attention but I don’t come up and cuddle when you’re on the couch or the bed. I would be ok in a house with other dogs but that being said I kind of do my own thing, rather than  being a companion for the other dogs. I don’t have any interest in toys or playing ball. I am fully house trained and do not need to be crated as I have good house manners. Foster mom thinks I may be a good candidate to become a therapy dog. I am in good health and up to date on my vaccinations.
