Hi, I’m Clyde. I’m a two year old male mixed breed, but you can see from my DNA test that I have herding breeds like border collie/cattle dog and a splash of Rottweiler. I weigh about 40lbs.

My previous family wasn’t able to keep me any longer, so I’m looking for a new one! I do have some reactivity behavior, so foster mom says I would do best with a dog-savvy owner. I can be a great pet if you know what to expect and would be comfortable managing some of my quirks.

I have lots of energy; I would do best with a fenced in yard where I could do my favorite activity – playing with my orange ball. I may bark at dogs and people walking by so it would be best if my new home isn’t in a high foot traffic area if I can see through the fence. I may be able to go to a rural property without a fence, but I would need to stay on leash for several weeks to adjust to my new family and location before going off leash.

I’m a sensitive guy and can be afraid of new people. I am food motivated, so that helps me warm up. If I have my other dog friends at the house with me I can warm up pretty quickly to new friends now (did you know they usually have cheese or chicken?!). I usually wait in my crate a few minutes at first to settle and calm myself, then I am excited to go see what snacks they have for me. If I’m outside walking around I do ok with other people unless they acknowledge me and try to approach me – that’s so scary and I may bark to try to get them to go away. Foster mom will either walk me in the later evening or go places with less foot traffic, or have me wear my vest that asks people to give me some space, and then we do just fine. I do also have some leash reactivity with other dogs- I’ve improved a lot, but if the other dog is moving fast/excitedly, I may get overwhelmed. I don’t bark as much anymore but I jump around and bite at my leash until they’ve passed.

While I have lived with kids before, foster mom thinks it’s best I go to a home without kids (teenagers may be ok) mainly because I might need my new family to give me space and go slow with me the first few days, and that can be hard to expect kids to do with a new puppy. I can either be an only dog or I would love to have another dog to play with. I live with two dogs at my foster home and I love it when I can get them to chase me around. I do need slow introductions when I meet new dogs or else I can get overwhelmed. Foster mom will help when I come meet your dog. I have not lived with cats before, and with my herding background, it would likely be best I go to home without cats.

I have a clean bill of health and am up to date on my vaccinations. I do take one medication daily that helps with anxiety. Foster mom gets it at the regular pharmacy and it’s about $12 a month. I really, really dislike nail trims and will likely need the vet to do it (if my new family is ambitious foster mom can show them how she’s been managing it at home).

Umm but can we talk about how great I am though?? I absolutely love playing ball and frisbee, I’m very fast! I’m loving once I warm up to you and may want to come snuggle up by your side. I’m smart and food motivated, I know a couple tricks I’d love to show you and to learn more. I went through reactivity training at Annabelle’s and while I’m not “cured” I definitely made a lot of progress! Even though the older dogs here aren’t big fans of me I still just want to be their friend. I’m crate trained and like hanging out in there, and sometimes I go in without foster mom asking just to see if she’ll give me a treat for being a god boy. I’m fully house trained. And I’m pretty darn handsome, wouldn’t you say?

I may not be perfect, but I can still be a loving companion, especially since foster mom can tell you the routine we found that works best. Building trust with a dog like me is the most rewarding experience in the world. To make sure we are a perfect fit, my foster mom is offering a trial adoption period. You can bring me home for a few weeks to see how we click before making it official. Once I realize I’m in a safe place I’ll start to come out of my shell and show you my playful personality. I promise to reward your patience with a lifetime of love! Foster mom will sponsor my adoption fee for a qualified adopter, with the intent this could help offset costs of future training, medicine, or nail trims.
