UPDATE 3:  We have discontinued the Quercetin because it was really upsetting Quinsy’s stomach.  We also have not continued the heart meds because the coughing stopped.  It was likely allergies.
Since giving him the thyroid supplement, he has finally grown most of his hair back and also no longer has yeast issues with his skin!\
He still needs eye drops for dry eye and the thyroid medicine both for the rest of his life but now he often plays with his toys when he isn’t being lazy and sleeping.

UPDATE 2:  Quinsy is getting periodic baths for his skin.  He is also on a new food that is suppose to be best for dogs with skin issues.  The veterinarian sent in a blood sample to test his thyroid and he was low-thyroid so is now on a thyroid supplement.  His heart was a little enlarge and he does have a low heart murmur but even with adding a heart medication, he is still coughing.  It might be allergies so we are replacing the heart pills with a Quercetin supplement to combat allergies.  This guy is so sweet so cross your fingers we have finally licked his problems!

UPDATE:  Quinsy has had a set back.  His hair had all grown in and the yeast and bacteria were gone but then he started losing hair again and scratching a lot.  We think he has severe Spring/Summer allergies as this all happened when he started spending more time out in the yard and grass.
He has received a treatment of Cytopoint and is no longer scratching but he does cough once in a while when he is outside.  He has a re-check coming up so hopefully we can get this little sweet man available for adoption soon!

BIOPSY UPDATE:  Quinsy will likely have no other problems from the growth in his mouth.  It was a Peripheral Odontogenic Fibroma!
Keep your fingers crossed that the re-check on his skin has a great prognosis!

Hair is growing in!

Mass in mouth removed.

Original Post:
When we saw the shelter picture of Quinsy, it looked like his tongue was sticking out.  But then when got him, we realized it was a growth inside his mouth.  He wasn’t bothered by it but it had to be removed and sent off for biopsy.  What did bother Quinsy was his yeast infected skin and the loss of hair from his back and underside.

He will need oral medications for quite a few weeks to clear up the yeast and baths to help him feel better.  His hair is already starting to grow in.

Quinsy will go outside when he needs to, whether we ask him to or sometimes he barks to let us know he has to go.  He has a good appetite and gets along fine with other dogs.  He is a nice little dog who needed a chance to feel good in his “twilight” years!
