Julio’s previous owner never had many visitors and rarely went anywhere. He was with this owner since a puppy so he wasn’t socialized with new humans. When meeting new people, he shakes and avoids them. He is not vicious, just scared and needs to be ignored until he feels more comfortable. Because of this, we are requiring he go to a new home with a fenced yard (physical fence) so that initially he can go in and out of the home without needing leash-to-collar contact with his new people.
When Julio first came to his foster home, he was just ignored and it only took a few days before he became comfortable and allowed petting. He does “talk” many of the times he is picked up and we are not sure if it is a “talk” or if he is warning that he is scared. He has not ever bitten but this is something a possible adopter needs to know.
Parts of this guy’s coat was shaved for some reason so he went to a groomer to get the coat evened out.
Surprisingly he was quite good for the groomer. Maybe he figured out she was trying to help him look handsome again.
It has been a while since his “spa” day and most of the hair has all grown in.
He is house trained and can be crated but he doesn’t need to be crated as he never gets into anything he shouldn’t. There were other small dogs in his previous home but he doesn’t interact with any of the dogs in his foster home. There are never any fights other than he does guard his food and will not share a food dish with another dog.
If you have the patience to let Julio come around, he will be a really nice companion.
We have no idea what he thinks of cats as he has never met any. We will not approve an adoption to a home with children because of his fears.
Julio will only be adopted to residents of the Greater Lansing area.
