Hey everyone I’m Shiloh. I’m just about 5 months old and I’m a Staffordshire terrier bulldog mix puppy. When I was just a baby, I was surrendered to the shelter. I had to stay there almost a month and a half because I was sick and needed medical treatment. But I was very scared there and once I was healthy enough I went to my foster home. I’m fully comfortable in my foster home now but I still don’t like leaving the house, I get quite scared. My nickname is “Shy Guy.” But foster mom is working on having me go on outings and meet new people to help me be more confident (well, as much as one can during a pandemic).

I like other dogs but if I’m out of the house I’m still timid when I meet them and need some time to warm up. I haven’t been around kids too much but foster mom thinks I would be fine as long as parents are prepared to supervise play time initially as I still try to nom hands a bit when I’m excited. I have not been around cats.

I would be a GREAT little brother for another dog. I LOVE following around the other dogs at my house and often try to wrestle them or play tug of war. Once I get tired out I’m a HUGE cuddle bug and love to go curl up with foster mom for a nap. I’m the best snuggler she’s had so far. I’m working on typical puppy training, like house breaking and not chewing on hands. I’m not fully house trained yet but definitely getting there.  I’m usually very good about not getting into things I shouldn’t at home or chewing things I shouldn’t. I’m doing well learning to walk nicely on my leash and I know a few simple commands like sit, shake, circle, and leave it. I will probably have medium exercise needs- I’d need to go on a few walks a week or play fetch in the yard. I get very excited when my humans come back home and let them know it… I may not be a good apartment fit if you have neighbors that could hear me.

The vet thinks I may be a smaller sized dog, she guessed in the 30’s when I’m full grown. But given my breed my new family should still be prepared that I could get larger, like 40-50lbs.

You may have noticed from my pictures I do have a skin condition. It’s called Ichthyosis and it’s due to a genetic mutation. It’s not contagious and it doesn’t seem to bother me any, but it causes my outer skin layer not to form correctly and so it continuously peels and flakes off. Think of it like a bad case of puppy dandruff. The vet says there’s no cure, but that I can still look halfway decent if I get brushed frequently and given a bath with medicated shampoo once a week (Amazon sells several kinds around $10-15 a bottle that would last me several months – or the vet dermatologist even suggested using plain old Head n Shoulders). I may be a little more work than other dogs because of this, and I probably won’t win best in show for my looks but I’m a sweet happy boy that deserves a great home and a special family who will love me just the way I am.

I am fostered in West Lansing. If you come meet me and we click, my rescue group offers a trial adoption so you can have a few weeks to see if we’re a good fit and if you’re comfortable managing my skin condition (you can do it, give me chance!)
