Meet Clarence! He is approximately 4 years old. Clarence is looking for a family to love him, and show him patience and support. He was found as a stray, and his current foster family has the following to say:

* Clarence took a while to warm-up to being in a home. He needs a family who he can trust and give him a lot of attention so he feels safe in their home. He will most likely scratch at your door to get outside the first couple of days, but this behavior NO LONGER happens here. He feels safe and supported here, and he will at your home too.
* Clarence is crate trained, he is VERY COMFORTABLE in his crate. He sleeps in the crate at night, and he goes into the crate when the family is not home. He feels safe in the crate, and typically calms down pretty quickly.
* Clarence is GREAT with children. He lives with a 5 & 7 year old and he will curl up on the couch and snuggle with them. He is VERY gentle. When he is playing with toys he may jump to grab one from one of the kiddos (like a giant puppy), but he is NOT at all aggressive toward children. He has been known to nibble at people while playing, not biting, but playful nibbling.

* He walks well on a gentle leader. It seems he was not previously trained to leash-walk, but on a gentle leader, and on some harnesses, he walks wonderfully. He does like to mark on trees when he walks, but a simple “leave it” and he will refocus and carry on walking. ? He rarely barks at other dogs on walks, but may give a typical hound whine to say hello.
* Clarence is accustomed to walks in the neighborhood, and he likes to go out in the morning and in the afternoon. He gladly accepts love from ALL of the neighborhood children, and many adults. He is quite a proud walker!
* He LOVES to be outside! He would love a large, fenced yard where he can run and exercise.
* He would LOVE to have another dog companion, he is super playful with his foster-dog-brother (another 4-year-old coonhound).
* During the day he mostly snuggles up on the couch, or on a bed, whichever you would let him sleep on.
* He does NOT seem to do well with cats.
* He barks frequently in the car, and his foster family is working on helping him with this behavior.

Please consider this faithful, loving, learning, dog. If you can give him some time to adjust, he will become an AMAZING, loyal member of your family. We LOVE Clarence and we want him to find the best forever home because he deserves it!

Hounds are not just hunting dogs. They make great and affectionate pets.
