If you are looking for a laid back, super-sweet companion, Chester the Cocker Spaniel is for you! He is 35 pounds of snuggle bug! He loves to be cuddled up next to you, and will gently put a paw on you to remind you that you should be petting him! His fur is so soft and curly, it feels like petting a little baby lamb! (And he has the most adorable little waggy lamb’s tail!)
Although he is estimated to be over 10 years old, he doesn’t seem slow or fragile at all. He has been eating regular dry dog food with no problems. He does not seem to have any allergies. When he wants a piece of people food, he sits and looks longingly at you, but doesn’t bark or whine. He hasn’t chewed shoes or furniture, but does like to get in the trash if it is available! He knows how to “sit” for treats, and will take them gently out of your hand. He sheds very little; I can even brush him and get no fur in the brush!
He barks and paces when he wants to go outside. He has full run of the house while I am at work, and he hasn’t had any accidents. Though he currently gets to sleep on the couch, he slept in a crate at night at his old foster house, and he was fine with that as well! He gets along with other dogs as long as they are introduced properly, and the other dogs don’t mind Chester bumping into them!
He is blind (I think cataracts) but still enjoys going on walks. He doesn’t pull on the leash, but does zig-zag to find all the smells! He walks around in the house and the yard just fine. He bumps into things until he gets used to the layout, but he doesn’t seem to mind! If you go into another room, he may let out a bark or two until you respond so he can find you! (Like Marco Polo!
Chester warms up to new people in no time! As long as they are willing to pet him, he doesn’t care who they are! This super-sweet senior snuggle-bug deserves a great forever home!
