Dakota is a handsome, mellow fellow; big with gorgeous black fur.  His treatment for HW infection is finished and he is scheduled to be neutered in late June. He is nearly ready for his forever family. A few people have fallen in love with him but no approved application yet. During his first vet check-up, the vet estimated that Dakota was no more than 5 years old, very likely closer to 3 years old. He is good with children and other dogs. Animal control reported that he ignored cats while there but he hasn't been observed with them while in his foster home. Dakota's foster mom said that he is the most adoring of all the dogs currently in her home.  He follows her everywhere and insists on laying where he can see her at all times. While many rescue dogs seem to be suspicious of men, not this guy!  Dakota loves men and insists on sitting right beside any who visit. Having spent his life living outside until his rescue in January, he didn't know about toys, dog beds or going to the bathroom outside. Smart as a whip, he took immediately to the biggest dog bed in the house, learned outside bathroom habits right away and now he carries toys everywhere.  For some reason he insists on carrying a toy with him whenever he goes outside.

In his former life Dakota was allowed to wander around his neighborhood but never allowed in the house. Since he remembers wandering, he is always tempted to escape through the front door. He should have a fenced-in yard so he remains safe.

If you think Dakota might be the family member you've been searching for, please fill out an adoption application. He will have a clean bill of health, be neutered and ready for his forever home by mid-July.  If you have questions about Dakota, email lisa@schnauzerama.org.
