This handsome guy is Arnold. He was dumped off at a state park in the spring of 2016, and spent the summer living there on his own. He scrounged burnt hotdogs and other leftovers from campsites, and the park rangers became his only friends. They enjoyed having Arnold around, but as the days started to short and grow colder, the staff made a heartbreaking decision and took him to the local animal shelter. They were afraid that he might not “make it,” because he was pretty rough looking. His summer outside had left him with a skin condition, and he also had a large tumor on his side.

Luckily, Arnold’s story made it to an APB foster mom, who called to pick him up immediately. By the time he was in our care, his tumor had grown to eight pounds! He was treated by Dr. Schultz in Okemos, and with time and care he was able to recover from the removal of his tumor and regrow his sleek black fur.

Arnold is getting some one-on-one training now, and has truly blossomed into a wonderful companion. He is around 5 years old, a lab mix, and he’s a big guy at almost 100 pounds! Arnold would be thrilled to have a family to all his very own, and would be happy to have children around! He would do best as an only dog, or with a low-key canine companion.
