Dolly is an 8 year old Toy Poodle. Dolly turned up in a shelter in MI about one year ago. Not much information was given or is known about her past. Dolly was adopted from the shelter and was in a home for about a year. It became very clear Dolly lacked socialization, leaving her with confidence and house training issues. Another concern was some ongoing health issues of the adopters. It was a hard decision but it was decided Dolly would do best in a new home.
It is very sad, Dolly gets startled quite easily, many times there is no reason for her to jump or run off. It is just her perceived feeling that ‘someone or something’ bad is about to happen. It is hard for her to make eye contact with humans and is fearful of coming by herself when called. Dolly looks to guidance and reassurance from the other dogs in the home. She has become very clingy with a particular dog (female Shih Tzu). For this reason we will only place Dolly in a home with another socialized dog.
We have been working hard on house training with Dolly. She has shown great improvement but will need continued teaching in this area. Again, Dolly follows what the other dogs do, so this along with positive reinforcement, a ‘Good Girl’ and a snack, are working well.

Dolly has such a sweet disposition. It is so rewarding to see her slowly come out of her shell. Now we are looking for the right person/family to continue to work with her with lots of time, love and patience.
